In a followup to a case of incredible size that was first reported on June 27, Herman and Kathleen Hoffman’s 207 horses were permanently awarded to the Houston SPCA by Judge Michael Seiler. The Hoffman’s sought a second chance with the horses, but the overwhelming evidence of intentional abuse made the decision easy for the Judge. With over 75% of the horses routinely receiving inadequate feed, and all of the horses lacking basic hoof care, the Hoffman’s abuse of their horses was clearly evident.
In addition to granting permanent ownership to the SPCA, the Judge also ordered the Hoffman’s to pay for the horses care up to this point, with a total bill of $480,000.
