Barn Fire Kills Horse

A devastating barn farm at the Gateway Farms in Acampo, California has claimed the life of one horse, named Billy.  The Clements Fire Chief lives nearby, and at 5:30 am, he heard a loud explosion at the barn nearly 1,000′ away from his house.  He rushed to the barn, cut the lock with bolt cutters, and began letting the horses out.  Unfortunately the fire spread too quickly and one horse was unable to escape the raging flames.

Gateway Farms is primarily a dressage and eventing facility, with a breeding program that consists of 6 stallions and 15 mares.  Their foals typically sell for in the $8,000 – $11,000 range.  At this time we do not know if the horse that was lost in the flames was a ranch horse or boarded at the facility.
