Chincoteague Ponies Make 90th Annual Swim

The Chincoteague ponies made their 90th annual swim from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island off the Virginia coast on Wednesday.  Every year, a group of volunteers called “Salt Water Cowboys” swim the ponies to Chincoteague for the annual auction.  The herd is limited to 150 horses on the Assateague Island, and the excess foals are auctioned off.  The 2014 prices were between $700 and $21,000, with an average sale price of $2,772.
