Friday night will mark the end of harness racing at the Maywood Park in Illinois. Races have been held continuously at the park since 1946. Duke Johnston, who’s family has ran Maywood for years, told reporters it all comes down to a cash flow problem. “Right now we earn about $20,000 a night in purses and are paying $45,000. I can’t keep doing that. We’re burning through a cash flow loss of about, you know, a substantial amount.”
For the horses of Maywood Park, they will continue racing at other tracks in the area.
