In 2011, a van driver spotted an emaciated, 2 year old Shire mare laying in a muddy pasture, too weak to lift her nose from the water, legs tangled in barbed wire, with only minutes left to live. Local vet Vikki Fowler, and her staff, used wire cutters and a sling to free the horse. The RSCPA refused to press charges, so Fowler purchased the mare from her breeder to keep her from ever having to be abused again. 4 years later, her recovery is complete, and her old owner, Phil Davies, has been found guilty of 52 counts of animal cruelty and barred from owning horses for life.
