As proponents of domestic horse slaughter push their agenda onto politicians, with no regard for the vast majority of American’s opinion of the issue, a key amendment to defund USDA inspectors failed to pass the House Appropriations Committee. Without this amendment, the USDA may be forced to pay for inspections of domestic horse slaughter plants, should one open. Horse slaughter is not illegal in most states, and with the amendment barring USDA funding of horse slaughter inspectors failing to pass the Appropriations Committee, a slaughter plant could open early next year.
