Judge Rules in Horse Slaughterhouse Case

Valley Meat

New Mexico State District Judge  Francis Matthew has ruled on Valley Meat’s motion to dismiss the Attorney General’s case against Valley Meat.  Valley Meat made national news a few years ago when it filed for permission to operate a horse slaughterhouse.  The New Mexico Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Valley Meat in 2013, and a preliminary injunction prevent Valley Meat from operating as a horse slaughterhouse.

In Judge Matthew’s decision he not only rejected Valley Meat’s arguments against the case, he also expanded the preliminary injunction to prevent any other company from slaughtering horses in the state of New Mexico.  The Attorney General had asked Judge Matthews to expand the injuction to prevent Valley Meat from opening shell companies to slaughter horses.
