Susan Underwood was enjoying a quiet evening at her home in Catawba County, N.C. when the stillness was shattered by the sound of a shotgun blast and a car racing to leave the area. Thinking no more of the incident, she was absolutely horrified to find that her beloved miniature horse, Bailey, had been shot in the shoulder at close range. She immediately called her vet, who diagnosed the mini as having a shattered clavicle. “The clavicle had been shattered, so I said, ‘he’s going to have to be put down?’ He said yes,” Underwood told reporters. A church sign was also shot with a shotgun down the road the same night.
