A mother and daughter duo, Nancy Lee Freeman and Katherine Freeman, aged 74 and 41 respectively, have been arrested on a slew of animal cruelty charges across 4 states. Their 10 year crime spree came to an end when the law finally caught up with them in Florida. When deputies with the Citrus County Sheriff’s department were called to the Freeman’s property, they found a deceased horse rotting in a stall, four horses that were surviving only on rain water, dead and dying animals of multiple species including rabbits, dogs, cats, goats and a turtle. Neighbors said 2 other horses were buried on the property.
The Freeman’s animal abuse history includes a 2005 conviction of Animal Cruelty in Fayette County, Kentucky, left dead horses at three different farms they rented in Mt Vernon, Kentucky during 2009, and starving horses through Arkansas and into Florida.
