In a case that shocked the horse community, Sherria Brunzell has been sentenced for her conviction of 8 counts of animal cruelty. Brunzell was given the choice of 18 months in jail, or 60 days in jail with 5 years probation, during which time she cannot be in contact with horses or any other livestock. Brunzell chose the 60 days in jail and probation.
Brunzell’s sentencing was from a 2014 investigation where the carcasses of 14 horses were found covered with tarps in her barn, with live horses and Llamas walking over the tops of the dead horses and up to 6′ of manure. Brunzell was not sentenced for the dead animals, just for the emaciated and abused horses found in her care.
