After an intense investigation, police have arrested 2 teenagers in the shooting death of 3 donkeys. On January 30, David Spruill of Meritt, North Carolina returned home from work to find his 3 donkeys shot and killed. 2 of the donkeys laid dead, and the 3rd, a little 6 month old named Peanut, died the next day. Peanut was the foal of the other two donkeys, Pete and Pearl.
Police began searching for answers and posted a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Neighbors reported seeing a white or silver SUV similar to a Chevy Suburban leave the area after hearing gunshots. Police determined it was a small-caliber gun that shot the donkeys.
Daylin Cross Hancock, 17, and Brandon Gray Bennett, 18 were arrested and charged with animal cruelty. They have been released on a $5,000 secured bond. They will appear in court on February 12.
