Steve Malone, a driver for Central Park Sightseeing, told reporters with New York Daily News that they want a 15 foot buffer zone between the protesters and the horses.  “They show pictures of dead and bleeding horses from 10 years ago. Kids cry. Parents ask them to stop, and then the activists yell and harass the parents,” Christina Hansen, a carriage driver, said of the protesters.

The protests have been happening for years, but have escalated in the last few months.  The next big protest is planned for December 17th.
