Kansas City, Kansas – An 11-year-old child’s horse was gunned down Tuesday morning, and the family is searching for answers. Honey, a 7-year-old mare, loved to stand by the fence and watch passing cars. Dannie Penedo, the horse’s owner and child’s mother, told reporters “Every morning when I left for work she would be there to say goodbye, she was always there, I would say goodbye to them, I never thought that would be it, that morning.”
The child, who suffers from a back problem and lack of confidence around horses, really bonded with Honey and loved riding her. Penedo told reporters about the moment she had to tell her child that Honey was killed. “It’s hard enough when you tell her that her horse passed away, but when you tell her her horse passed away because someone deliberately killed your horse… she’s pretty devastated she fell to the ground she cried, she was very very upset.”
A neighbor’s surveillance camera caught the moment Honey collapsed, mere seconds after a light-colored car drove by. Police are searching for the car, and for the killers.
