Fulton County, Georgia – Officers responding to an animal welfare check were horrified at what they discovered on a wooded property. As officers walked past the makeshift shelters, saddles left in the elements, and some loose chickens, they found dead horse after dead horse. One horse was burned, in an attempt to dispose of the body. Another horse had thrashed for many hours as it lay dying. Yet another horse was left tied to a tree as it died. Rescue partners were called to help remove the remaining 8 horses, most of which were in emaciated condition.
“It’s pretty horrific back there. The horses are in various stages of decomposition,” Fulton County Animal Control Field Services Director Tim Poorman told reporters. Animal Control went on to say it’s the worst horse abuse they have seen.
As police and rescue personal worked to corral and remove the remaining horses, a man showed up claiming to be the horses owner. Police promptly arrested 35-year-old Brandon Fulton and charged him with felony animal abuse. Fulton had no remorse when he was arrested, he simply asked the police “How did you get on the property?” Fulton is no stranger to animal abuse, he previously was arrested for abandoning a horse on a public road.
