A heavy steel beamed horse barn collapsed in Montgomery County, MD. A total of 35 horses were housed inside the barn when it partially collapsed from an excess of snow on its roof. Firefighters and other rescue personal responded to the call for assistance in freeing the trapped horses. Their progress was impeded every step of the way by fierce winds, snow drifts, and the danger from the structure collapsing more. The horses were finally extracted from the damaged structure, with 1 or 2 needing veterinarian care.
