A survey of over 10,000 respondents to a survey conducted titled 2015 American Horse Publications Equine Industry Survey, which was sponsored by Zoetis, has revealed some very interesting figures of the horse national horse community.
89% of respondents expect to have the same number of horses or more within a year.
71% of respondents own the same number of horses in 2015 as they did in 2014.
85% of respondents rely on their veterinarian for vaccination advice, while 31% administer the vaccination themselves.
88% of respondents deworm their horses themselves.
50% of respondents ranked unwanted horses as the top challenge for the horse industry. This number has steadily dropped since a the survey started in 2009, when 63% of respondents declared unwanted horses as the top challenge.
Other common issue that were indicated as challenges facing the horse community are the cost of keeping horses (40%) and overbreeding (35%.)
33% of respondents are retired, unemployed or otherwise not working.
