Clarion County, Pennsylvania – The Clarion County Sheriff Department raided a farm after allegations of animal abuse were reported. When officers and staff of Bright Futures Farm arrived at the farm, what they found inside the barn shocked even the most veteran officer.
Eleven horses were living inside the barn, locked in the decaying structure like long forgotten prisoners for three long years. Their hooves were over a foot long, curling from neglect. Five of the 11 horse in the barn were suspended from the rafters with slings constructed of rubber, chain and rope. Of the 5 suspended from the ceiling, only one survived the horrible ordeal. There was no sign of water inside the barn, and the only feed, moldy, low quality rubbish, was left out of reach of the starving horses. Even knowing that the officers were coming to the barn, the owner made no attempt to provide food or water to the horses.
Only six of the original 11 horses have survived their ordeal. The Clarion County District Attorney plans to file 5 charges against the owner of the horses, with a maximum fine of $700 per charge. Bright Futures Farm is urging people to politely ask the District Attorney to file 11 charges against the owner of the horses.
