Hertfordshire, England – David Tatlow, president of the British Horse Show Association, has some harsh words for little girls who he says are ruining horse showing in England. “I hate this make-up nonsense, I really do. I find it completely abhorrent. People are trying to pull the wool over the judges’ eyes. It’s sort of cheating because instead of grooming horses properly, they put this make-up on them.”
Tatlow, 76, is complaining about show horses with tail and forelock extensions, mascara, glitter gel, and foundation. The results can artificially enhance a horses beauty, and judges often often award wins to the unnaturally attractive horse. The use of cosmetics is not barred by the British Horse Show Association, but the overuse is gaining attention. “The mothers and fathers are listening too much to their children, that’s the problem. It’s the little girls who are asking for it,” Tatlow explained to reporters.
