Miami, Florida – Christopher Emerson, 36, rode himself right into jail when he was arrested alongside Highway 1 where he was sleeping in the bushes with his horse tied nearby. Emerson’s horse, Trigger, was emaciated, weak, and required immediate medical attention. Trigger was seized by the SPCA and taken to a local rescue facility where it is expected he will have to stay for several months.
Emerson’s journey on Trigger began over 4 months ago in South Carolina. He told reporters he was in a rough patch in his life, divorced his wife and crashed his truck. He decided to head to south Florida to go snorkeling. As he was being booked into jail, he yelled “Ride a horse in America and you get locked up.”
Dr Zachary Franklin, the vet who examined Trigger, doesn’t have a problem riding horses long distances, but he does have a problem with not feeding your horse. “A horse can easily be ridden from South Carolina to the Keys as long as they’re fed properly and in good condition. Don’t ride a horse that’s in this condition.” Trigger was found by Dr Franklin to be severely underweight with sores in his mouth.
