A partially blind horse, an underweight 20-year-old mare, was abandoned at the New Holland horse sale barn and shot about 130 times at close rang by a paintball gun. Lancaster SPCA was called to the sale barn after employees found the horse in a back pen after the sale was finished. The horse was not consigned for sale and had no identifying markings or paperwork.
The horse is blind in her right eye and was in excruciating pain when touched, according to the SPCA. She is an Appaloosa / Arab cross. The mare had a high temperature and appeared to be sick.
She was taken to the New Bolton Center by Omega Horse Rescue. The New Bolton Center is run by the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine and specializes in large animal care.
