Bunell, Florida – A 24-year-old horse wandering in its owner front yard, suddenly founds herself falling through a fiberglass septic tank. Fortunately for Mercy, her head was still above ground when she came to a stop.
Multiple agencies, including Flagler County Fire Rescue , the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and St. Johns County Fire and Rescue, responded to the call for help. A veterinarian sedated Mercy, and crews began working to extract Mercy from her stinky situation. Part of the septic tank had to be cut away to make room for rescuers to brave the smelly liquid. Nearly 4 hours from when Mercy first fell in the septic tank, she was finally extracted. She laid on her side for a few minutes while crews washed her down, then she stood and began grazing.
Mercy suffered minor cuts, but overall is in good condition.
