Sored TN Walker Show Horse Sold at Auction

Hohenwald, TN – When Skywalks Magical Dream, a 3-year-old registered TN Walking Horse, stepped off the trailer at Horse Plus Humane Society’s shelter, his first two steps were stumbles.  “Horses wearing the stacks have a very hard time trying to step out of horse trailers.  These shoes are completely unpractical, and it’s like trying to walk around in the dirt in high heels,” Horse Plus wrote in their blog.

Skywalks Magical Dream has been shown 10 to 12 times in the last couple years, according to the auctioneer who sold him.  He comes from impressive breeding, his dam’s sire was The Titleist, the national champion in 2002 and 2003, and the world champion in 2005.

The padded shoes and scars on his pasterns tell a story of abuse.  Both of Skywalks pasterns on his front legs have swelling and hair loss, and his left front pastern has open, oozing wounds.  “I believe he was dumped at the slaughter auction in part because his pasterns were in a condition that would be hard to disguise enough to pass a USDA inspection,” Tawnee Preisner, of Horse Plus Humane Society, said.

Horse Plus Humane Society is raising funds to care for Skywalks Magical Dream.  “Dream is a young, beautiful horse and for him to suffer so much at an early age is hard to wrap your mind around. We have already spent over $1000 on Dreams rescue and vet care.  He is going to take a lot of rehab, and he is a cryptorchid stallion needing a $2,000 surgery.  A cryptorchid stallion only has 1 testicle descended, and the surgery to remove the other one is a very extensive and major surgery.  We knew when we saw Dream at the auction that we had to help him.  Not only do we have to give Dream his rehab and recovery, we have to get this case extremely well documented and hopefully those responsible will be prosecuted.  This is going to take a lot of resources and we desperately need your help to get justice for Dream and other TN Walking horses like him.  We must do what we can to stop soring,” their blog reads.
