Franklin, TN – The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association’s (TWHBEA) retiring president, Steve Smith, announced that the Tennessee Department of Agriculture has awarded a grant (total amount unknown, estimated in excess of $100,000) to Project Pegasus. Project Pegasus was formed to promote a healthy and vibrant big lick Tennessee Walking horse show. The grant uses taxpayers funds to promote the big lick industry, despite an overwhelming majority of Tennessee residents opposed to the big lick.
Dr John Haffner, DVM, wrote about the big lick.
The fact is the big lick can only be accomplished by soring. When one soring technique becomes detectable, another one is developed. The big lick is a learned response to pain and if a horse has not been sored, they do not learn it.”
