Young Pony Shot by Hunters

Magee, MS – A young pony was found laying dead in his pasture by his owner.  A hunter apparently mistook the black and white pony for a deer, and shot it from the roadway.  Kay Collier writes “Is seems that hunting from the road results in larger deer with a larger rack. This huge deer was killed yesterday morning at the intersection of James Boyakin Barnett Road and Dick Welch Road. This was one of many ponies on the farm and was not even a year old. This road kill could have been an innocent person instead of this innocent pony. Hunters should be careful and make sure of their kill before pulling the trigger. Anyone with information about this crime should contact the authorities or pm Roger Collier.”

It is illegal to shoot from or across the road in Mississippi.  The family of the deceased pony are raising a reward and have contacted law enforcement to investigate, but at this time there are no leads as to the responsible party.
