Durban, South Africa – The doors to a 100-year-old stable are being closed for the last time at the end of the month. A petition with over 25,000 signatures wasn’t enough to keep it open.
Authorities are forcing the stables to close to make way for a $300 million sports complex, which appears to include horse racing. The stables have given up on their very lengthy legal fight, and have been given 2 weeks to vacate the property.
The horses have all found new homes, but the grooms are the ones who may suffer the most. “Some of these grooms have worked here for over 30 years, and no provision has been made for them,” Nikki Trollip, of Newmarket Stables Equestrian Club, said.Author: Dale Williams <-- Become my friend on Facebook! - Phone: 724-964-6773
