Nevis – The small Caribbean island of Nevis has become a killing zone for donkeys. Faced with an alleged overpopulation of wild donkeys, the Department of Agriculture is offering a $28 bounty for every dead donkey.
The landfill is no longer accepting donkeys due to a public outcry, so the dead donkeys are being dumped on beaches and around the island.
Senator Carlisle Powell has lashed out against the Ministry of Agriculture, Nevis Island Administration and the Minister of Agriculture. He said “Without a single forethought of how such a valuable resource be sustainably utilized, orders of shoot to kill on these hapless beasts have been issued. Callously shot with rifles and shot guns from every corner of this island.”
It is believed that over 500 donkeys have been shot and killed in the last month in Nevis.Author: Dale Williams <-- Become my friend on Facebook! - Phone: 724-964-6773
