Chesterfield, MI – A gentle draft named Renee, who has the adorable nickname Neigh-Neigh, visited residents of the Village of East Harbor Senior Living Community. “It was pet therapy on steroids,” Carolyn Martin, administrator for the nursing home, told TODAY.
Some of the nursing home staff doubted that a horse could come inside, but Martin wanted to do something extraordinary for the residents. Martin contacted Chamberlin Pony Rides in Michigan, who in turn put Martin in contact with Maggie Provenzano.
Neigh-Neigh was a huge hit with the residents, and every resident came out of their room to meet the gentle giant, even residents who never come out for socializing or activities.
“[It was] one of the most moving days we’ve ever had,” Martin told reporters. The visit lasted 2 and a half hours, much longer than the scheduled 1 hour.
