Anchorage, Alaska – Lil Blessing shouldn’t be alive, but the little foal doesn’t seem to know that. Lil Blessing was stuck with her nose presenting for an hour, with no legs showing.
The veterinarian used chains, a lot of lubrication, and sheer grit to pull Lil Blessing from her mother. When Lil Blessing was born, she was found to have contracted tendons, her legs could not straighten beyond 90 degrees, and she could not stand. Without being able to stand, Lil Blessing could not nurse.
Volunteers from the community rallied to give Lil Blessing a chance to live. Every 30 minutes a volunteer nurses Lil Blessing’s mom and bottle feeds the baby. Splints are put on and off her front legs every 2 hours to stretch her tendons. She is unable to stand for more than a minute at a time, but she is showing signs of growing stronger.
Every day is a victory for Lil Blessing, and with her strong support group, Lil Blessing has a long life to look forward to.Author: Dale Williams <-- Become my friend on Facebook! - Phone: 724-964-6773
