Horse and Carriage Struck by Amtrak

Destroyed Buggy

Abbotstown, Pa – A horse and buggy were struck by an Amtrak train Friday evening, destroying the buggy and killing the horse.  The horse was reported as a runaway earlier before the buggy became stuck on the track.  The horse ran for approximately half a mile before becoming stuck on the tracks.

The train was carrying approximately 90 passengers, and no injuries were reported.  The passengers were transferred to another train while workers cleared debris and investigated the accident.
