Abilene, Kansas – When Kaeyla Keating woke up, she was horrified to find her beloved mare, Kona, had to fight to stay home during the night. Thieves parked about 1 mile from Kona’s pen, a piped corral next to the barn, and led her to their trailer. They struggled to load Kona, who fought them with everything she had.
“Kona had whip marks, scrapes, cuts, swelling and rope burn on her face, legs, around her neck, up under her tail and a 6 inch gash in her back leg that was cut to the bone. My assumption is that they could not get her loaded and after she cut her self so badly, they let her loose,” Keating wrote in her Facebook post. Keating believes the thieves were wanting to steal Kona for her color to make a quick sale.
Keating loaded Kona up in her trailer and took her to the vet for treatment. Kona stood still as the vet stitched her leg and treated her other injuries, and she is expected to make a full recovery.Author: Dale Williams <-- Become my friend on Facebook! - Phone: 724-964-6773
