Opelousas, Louisiana – A once great champion, 13-year-old Dr Drip who won over $250,000 in his career, was seized by the St Landry Parish Animal Control and Rescue.  Dr Drip was emaciated with wounds that defied belief.

Dr Drip’s back and spine was covered with open wounds, crawling with maggots and infected.  The wounds were likely caused by being ridden with an ill-fitting saddle while emaciated, and Justice For Horses reports that Dr Drip was ridden just days before seizure.  The maggots could be heard tunneling through Dr Drip’s flesh.

The attending veterinarian determined that Dr Drip has a strong will to live, and has begun treatment, despite numerous calls on social media to put him to sleep. The vet stated they had never seen anything this bad in their career.  Barring any complications, Dr Drip is expected to fully recover, but no doubt scars will forever show the horrific abuse he experienced.

The Sheriff department is pursuing animal abuse charges against Dr Drip’s owner.
