Miami, Florida – Two miniature horses, along with 250 other animals including horses, pigs, goats, sheep, tropical birds, alligators, snakes, turtles, were sent to jail. The Monroe County Jail was evacuated of human inmates ahead of Hurricane Irma, and the Sheriff department moved the animals into the cells.
The jail, which is designed to withstand hurricanes, was the best option for the animals at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Animal Farm, a farm for abandoned, abused, confiscated or surrendered animals the Sheriff department runs.
Staff worked even as rain squalls from the hurricane were drenching them to make sure the animals were as safe, warm and dry as could be.
