Petrolia, California – When caretaker Josh Griego received a call from a neighbor that one of the 3 iconic zebras that lived alongside the road for a decade, he was excited. He had suspected for awhile that one of the zebras was pregnant, and he was hoping she was in labor. What he found shocked and saddened him.
Randy, the eldest male zebra, was laying dead, bloated, with a single shot through his side. Griego found a single Remington .223 casing near the road. An officer with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife investigated the shooting.
Griego says the family, and zebras, have no enemies in the community. “It was probably some tweaker or someone who was drunk,” he pondered.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Randy’s death.Author: Dale Williams <-- Become my friend on Facebook! - Phone: 724-964-6773
