Man Gets 10 Years in Prison for Shooting Horse

Forrest City, Arkansas – On May 4, a horse was found in the pasture shot multiple times.  The horse, named Brownie, was shot multiple times in what appeared to be a deliberate act of torture. Police and Crimestoppers offered an $11,000 reward for information of who shot the horse, and a tip led to the arrest of 19-year-old Brandon Mitchell.

Mitchell was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, criminal mischief, discharging a firearm in city limits, committing a felony with a firearm and furnishing a handgun to a convicted felon.  He pleaded guilty to felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty and first-degree criminal mischief, and was sentenced to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.   Part of his plea allowed him to visit home this weekend and return to the sheriff office on Monday to begin serving his sentence.
