Ford County, Illinois – A domestic dispute between 25-year-old Matthew T. Harrell and his ex-girlfriend nearly turned deadly when Harrell waved a gun at his ex and threatened to shoot her. He then turned the gun on her horse and shot it in the face.
The horse was shot in the nose, and was rushed to a local veterinarian for emergency treatment. The .40 caliber handgun caused significant damage to the nasal cavity and snout. The horse is expected to make a full recovery.
Harrell was arrested and charged with two Class 4 felonies, aggravated animal cruelty and criminal damage to property, and he is charged with Class A misdemeanor aggravated assault.
Harrell bonded out of Ford County Jail, and has been ordered to have no contact with his ex, and to turn all his guns over to law enforcement.
