Nashville, TN – Preshias Harris was shocked when she pulled up next to a horse-drawn carriage in downtown Nashville.  The horse pulling the carriage was skinny, with ribs and hip bones visible.  “You could count the ribs,” Harris said. “It’s not a romantic ride if you’re looking at the back with two bones stick out in the back of a hip, it’s not romantic at all.”  Harris took a photo, and posted it to her Facebook, where it has been shared thousands of times.

Melody Robinson, owner of American Melody Carriages, says there is nothing wrong with Daisy, the white Percheron Harris took a picture of, but does admit she could gain 100 pounds.  She told reporters she got Daisy only a week ago.  “My horses are always fat and the lady I got her from said she had a tooth infection and that’s why she dropped weight,” Robinson told reporters.

Robinson explained that she took Daisy out for a 1-hour reservation she had, and that she has no regrets working her.  “Once you get to know the horse, you kind of have your own secret language,” she told reporters with News 2. “You’re going to know when they’re not feeling well or something is wrong.”  She went on to say since Daisy did not stumble or falter, that she is fine to work.

Metro Animal Care and Control are investigating Robinson, along with the Transportation Licensing Commission, which oversees that carriage companies in Nashville.
