Old Orchard Beach, Maine – People wishing to ride their horses on the beach in Old Orchard Beach may soon have to put diapers on their horse, if a proposed city ordinance passes. The town is considering the ordinance after neighboring town, Scarborough, passed a similar ordinance. The two towns share control of the beach and regulate horse riding in conjunction.
A permit to ride on the beach costs $20 for the riding season, and only permitted horses are allowed on the beach. Current ordinance requires horse owners to dispose of manure, but does not require manure containment bags. Failure to clean up after a horse can result in a $50, or more, fine.Author: Dale Williams <-- Become my friend on Facebook! - Phone: 724-964-6773
